Open Fiber to bring FTTH to Matera in EUR 7 mln rollout

The Open Fiber wholesale-only venture of utility giant Enel has announced an agreement with Matera city council to build a wholesale fibre-optic network in the southern Italian city in a total investment of around EUR 7 million. The aim is to bring FTTH coverage to 70 percent of homes by the end of 2018, enabling internet access at speeds of up to 1 Gbps. The rollout is part of Open Fiber's plan to build a wholesale fibre-optic network open to all operators in 250 large Italian cities, taking advantage of parent company Enel's installation of around 30 million smart electric meters over the
