Web browser developer Opera Software has announced that its built-in ad-blocking feature is now available to all desktop and Android users. The functionality was previously only available in the developer version of Opera for desktops. Opera said it’s the first browser company to offer a native ad blocker across devices, claiming that the feature speeds up webpage load times on desktops by as much as 89 percent compared to browsing with the option disabled. It also claims that its solution is 45 percent faster compared to Google Chrome with third-party ad-blocking extensions installed.
On the mobile platform, the new version of Opera Mini for Android loads webpages 40 percent faster than with the ad blocker disabled, said Opera, adding that the compression technology also helps to drastically reduce the size of downloaded data. As a result, Opera Mini users with the ad-blocker activated can achieve an additional 14 percent in data savings, said the company.
