Optus launches 4G services, plans
Australian telecommunications provider Optus has launched LTE services in Sydney, Perth, and Newcastle and is rolling out LTE in Melbourne on 15 September. The operator is offering two 4G plans: the AUD 60 per month Optus Plan with AUD 650 included value and 1.5 GB of data, and the AUD 80 per month Optus plan with AUD 850 included value and 2 GB of data. At launch, Optus offers the Samsung Galaxy S III 4G and on the AUD 60 plan customers pay AUD 7 per month and on the AUD 80 plan the device is free. The plans also come with unlimited mobile access to popular social networks, unlimited national SMS messages, and unlimited on-net calls.

Iinet to offer mobile broadband via Optus' LTE network

Australian ISP iiNet has signed an MVNO agreement with Optus Wholesale. Under the agreement, iiNet will offer services through the Optus 4G FD-LTE network to iiNet, Westnet, Netspace, and Internode customers. The company will launch the 4G services with a choice of iiNet-branded devices, including a 4G wireless USB modem and a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. The company will announce product details and service availability within the coming months, once Optus has confirmed the launch date of its wholesale 4G service

Virgin Mobile launches LTE services

MVNO Virgin Mobile Australia is offering LTE services in selected areas of Sydney, Perth, and Newcastle. Melbourne will follow on 15 September and selected areas of Brisbane and Adelaide will follow in 2013. Virgin Mobile uses the Optus mobile network. Virgin also offers the Samsung Galaxy SIII 4G for pre-order. The device is offered for AUD 7 on the AUD 59 per month Fair Go Bro plan. Virgin Mobile will also be launching Mobile Broadband 4G later this year.
