Optus starts talks with govt on NBN deal

Australian telecommunications provider Optus has begun talks with the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) over whether or not its AUD 800 million deal to shut down its cable network will remain under the rebooted National Broadband Network (NBN), reports The Australian. Optus signed its deal with NBN Co in June 2011. Under the deal, the company will receive AUD 800 million in payments from NBN Co between 2014 and 2018 as it migrates its 500,000 hybrid fibre coaxial cable customers to the NBN.
