Orange enters talks to buy four Airtel units in Africa
Orange and Bharti Airtel International have entered into exclusive discussions to explore the possibility of Orange acquiring Airtel's subsidiaries in Burkina Faso, Chad, Congo Brazzaville and Sierra Leone. The companies said there was no certainty that any binding agreement would result from the talks, but provided no further details.

Orange is continuing its acquisition drive in Africa and has agreed to acquire Bharti Airtel's operations in Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone. Orange will acquire 100 percent of the two companies, which generate annual revenue of around EUR 275 million. The purchase price is equal to around 7.9 times their annual EBITDA. Airtel Nigeria restructures operations and cuts workforce

Airtel Nigeria has made some of its employees redundant in order to reposition the business and reinforce its competitiveness, The Punch reported. It did not say how many workers were affected except to say the number was negligible and they were duly compensated. A source said that they received three months' salaries in lieu of notice and another month's pay for every year of service.

Airtel, Liquid Telecom ink pan-African fibre connection deal

Airtel Africa and Liquid Telecom have signed an agreement for a terrestrial fibre network to connect Airtel's mobile base stations and enterprises. The framework agreement enables Airtel operations to use Liquid Telecom's existing 20,000 km fibre network across East, Central and Southern Africa. Airtel will also be able to use new, purpose-built fibre infrastructure to connect its mobile base stations and enterprise customers with fibre.

Airtel to cut workforce in Africa by 15-20% this yr - report

Airtel plans to reduce its workforce in Africa by 15-20 percent this year, including the departure of 20 senior executives in the region, the Economic Times of India (ET) reported. It has struggled to turn a profit since entering the region in 2010, ET said. Some 700 to 800 of Airtel Africa's tower employees will leave the company over the next six months, and 20 senior executives will depart when their contracts expire.

Orange has acquired an additional 9 percent stake in Moroccan operator Meditel, raising its total holding to 49 percent.
