Orange France to invest over EUR 100 mln in two new data centres

Wednesday 15 May 2019 | 15:27 CET | News

Orange said that it will invest over EUR 100 million in the construction of two new data centres, scheduled for completion in 2020. CEO Stephane Richard inaugurated the start of one of the two projects on 14 May at the Val-de-Reuil campus in Normandy. In the same site, the operator inaugurated the Normandie1 data centre in 2012.

The new facility, Normandie2, will cover a surface of over 16,000 square metres, including 5,000 square metres of server rooms, and have 13.5 megawatt of IT power. Highlighting the green credentials of the project, the operator said that cooling methods already used in the Normandie1 data centre will help minimise energy consumption in the new building.

Richard told Les Echos that the two new data centres will enable the operator to replace other facilities whose lifecycles are coming to an end. Of the current buildings, only Normandie1 is set to remain in operation in France, while nine other sites previously converted to data centres will progressively close.

Alongside Normandie2, Orange has commissioned a second data centre near the city of Chartres, at Amilly-Mainvilliers. Eiffage Construction, the company in charge of the 30,000 square metre site, said that the facility will be completed by September 2020.
