Orange launches LTE-M in France, with Spain and Romania to follow by year-end

Thursday 8 November 2018 | 17:04 CET | News

Orange announced the commercial availability of LTE-M services for connected objects in metropolitan France, across a footprint covering 98 percent of the population. Commercial launches in Spain and Romania are scheduled before the end of the year, while pilots continue in other European markets.

The operator said that the new LTE-M offering is compatible with the entire IoT portfolio marketed via Orange Business Services, highlighting the availability of the Power Saving Mode functionality among its environmentally friendly capabilities. LTE-M compatible devices will be included by the end of the year on Datavenue Market, Orange Business Services’ marketplace dedicated to IoT objects and connectivity.

The launch in the French market follows to roll-out of LTE-M services in Belgium during 2017, when Orange also carried a number of pilots across Europe with chipset manufacturers and network equipment vendors.

Deployed on Orange’s 4G networks, LTE-M will mainly address IoT segments such as logistical monitoring, remote assistance and fleet management, where connected objects are on the move, in buildings or underground locations. Orange Business Services will market the new services as complementary to its established LoRa-based portfolio, which already counts around 250 corporate customers in France.
