The Orange Money service has won first prize at a Dubai-based international competition called the Mobile Money Awards in the 'Best launch of mobile money' category, reports Midi Madagaskara. Some 500,000 people in Madagascar are currently using Orange Money with Orange Madagascar and nearly 2,000 shops and businesses accept payment. Another 100 retailers are joining every month, according to the operator. Users can deposit and withdraw money at 1,000 points on Grande Ile. Orange Madagascar was in competition with Safaricom's M-PESA service, Vodafone, Tigo, Digicel and others for the award.
