MOBILE numbers are to lose their distinct city-centric identities. The DoT recently allotted the 981 series to Orange in Mumbai. The number appears to be a Delhi number at first glance, but is now in use in Mumbai. Orange has said it was allotted the series by DoT. Hutch V-P Harit Nagpal said that after crossing the one million mark, it applied to the DOT, which allocated it the 9819 series.
