Orange outlines capex plans to meet mobile data demand

France Telecom Orange plans an overall capital expenditure of EUR 18.5 billion in 2011-2013, a significant amount of which will go towards mobile network upgrades to meet the explosive demand for mobile internet usage, head of international operations Olaf Swantee told shareholders at the company's AGM in Paris on 8 June. Orange anticipates that mobile internet demand will double every year until 2013, based on the take-up of smartphones and the fact that 70 percent of the group's postpaid subscribers and half of its prepaid customers are still using conventional handsets.
