Orange Spain to hike fibre speed to 1Gbps, raise prices this summer

Orange Spain is set to follow Vodafone and Movistar by increasing the price of its convergent plans this summer in exchange for improvements in its fibre and TV offers, reports ADSL Zone. After announcing a brand simplification strategy earlier this year that will see the main Orange brand cater to the group’s premium customers, the operator has decided to hike the speed of all convergent plans with top fibre speeds of 600Mbps to 1Gbps and at the same time increase the monthly cost by around EUR 2.

All existing plans with 300Mbps fibre will remain at the same speed but can be improved to 600Mbps for EUR 10 a month and to 1Gbps for EUR 20 a month. The operator will also improve its Orange TV offer with a more agile and intuitive interface, said the report, adding that the price increase is set to come into effect in August.

Orange Spain's Simyo brand has become the first operator to launch a Christmas promotion, giving all new and existing customers a one-off 20GB data bundle to be used over the course of 15 consecutive days during the festive season. The bundle can be activated until 17 January 2022 by both prepay and postpay customers via the Simyo app or their personal area.

Orange Spain slashes price of 600Mbps fibre plan for 12 months

Orange Spain has replied to recent price cuts from Vodafone Spain and Telefonica by more than halving the price of its 600Mbps standalone fibre plan for 12 months, compared to its rivals' 9-month offers. As a result, Orange's symmetric (download and upload) 600Mbps fibre broadband is currently available for EUR 18.95 a month over 12 months, rising to EUR 40.95 thereafter, a total saving of EUR 264.

Simyo Spain unveils student fibre deal with 3-month hiatus

Orange's Spanish low-cost brand Simyo has launched a dedicated fibre-only offer for students that allows subscribers to take a maximum 3-month hiatus from the service every year. Two plans area available, including Fibra100 with 100Mbps symmetric broadband at a cost of EUR 25.99 a month or Fibra300 with symmetric speeds of up to 300Mbps for EUR 30.99 a month.

Simyo Spain cuts price of second mobile lines

Orange's Spanish low-cost brand Simyo has announced that all new and existing convergent customers will be able to add second mobile lines to their plans at promotional rates starting at EUR 4 a month. The discounted lines range from 20 minutes and 2GB of data for EUR 4 a month to four unlimited calls plans with 7GB, 14GB, 25GB and 35GB of data for EUR 6, EUR 8, EUR 10 and EUR 12 respectively, the latter EUR 8 less than the price of the main line.

Orange Spain blocking users of rival networks from accessing TV service

Orange Spain has begun preventing users of rival operator networks from accessing its Orange TV service to avoid account sharing, reports website Bandaancha.eu. Starting 20 July, several users of networks other than those of Orange and its second brand Jazztel have been receiving an error message when trying to access the Orange TV service stating that "In order to view Orange TV content from this device, you must be connected to an Orange or Jazztel landline or mobile line (internet, Wi-Fi or mobile)."

Orange Spain has announced another update to its Orange TV application, redesigning the interface and introducing the ability to download movies and series to watch offline. The interface is now more intuitive and user-friendly, enabling subscribers to find more content quicker among the 50,000 titles available, said the operator.

Orange Spain halves cost of fibre for second homes

Orange Spain has followed other Spanish operators including Masmovil and Telefonica by reducing the price of its fibre service for existing convergent subscribers with second homes. Under the summer promo, convergent customers will be able to contract numerous additional fibre lines for "second homes" of any type in any location within the Spanish territory at a price of EUR 12.48 a month over 6 months, rising to EUR 24.95 thereafter.

Orange Spain cuts price of unlimited data plans for 6 months

Orange Spain has followed Telefonica and Vodafone by announcing a reduction in the price of its premium unlimited data plans. New subscribers signing up by 04 July will be offered a 20 percent reduction in the monthly cost of the operator's Go Up and Go Top tariffs, which will be available for EUR 28.76 and EUR 38.36 a month respectively, instead of EUR 35.95 and EUR 47.95.

Vodafone Spain to hike prices by at least EUR 3 this summer

Vodafone Spain is set to increase the price of its newer mobile and convergent plans this summer a few months after hiking the price of its older rates in exchange for more data, reports Xataka Movil, citing information sent to customers. Starting 15 July the operator will increase the cost of Vodafone One Ilimitada plans in force since the summer of 2020 by EUR 3 a month for a convergent rate and by EUR 1.50 for each additional mobile line without improving contract conditions.

Orange Spain launches reforesting campaign

Orange Spain has launched a new initiative in its ongoing campaign to encourage users to recycle their old smartphones. Under the "Mundo con Orange" initiative, the operator has committed to planting one tree for every device handed in at its stores. The trees will be planted by the Sylvestris Group in the Umbria mountain in Ejulve (Teruel), an area that is being reforested following a major fire in 2019.

Orange to lay off 485 workers in Spain, 15% of total

Orange Spain has informed unions that it plans to lay off a total of 485 workers throughout the country, equivalent to around 15 percent of its total workforce of around 3,000, reports Europa Press, citing labour representatives. The company reportedly described the collective dismissal (ERE) as "essential" to guarantee its competitiveness in a market that has seen a shift towards lower-cost providers in recent years.
