Orange sues Marvell Semiconductor for patent infringement
France Telecom-Orange has sued Marvell Semiconductor in a New York federal court for allegedly infringing a patent for digital data coding methods, Bloomberg reports. The telecom operator claims its technology was used to make processors that went into BlackBerry devices. The patent was earned by Claude Berrou, the inventor of so-called turbo codes which, according to the suit, revolutionised digital communications. France Telecom said that Qualcomm, Broadcom and other telecommunications companies obtained licenses and pay royalties for it. Marvell would not comment on the matter.
