OSN first pay-TV operator in Middle East to provide Netflix access

Middle Eastern pay-TV operator OSN has signed the first partnership deal in the region with Netflix. Soon, OSN customers will be able to access Netflix' library via a new OSN Box due for launch towards the end of the second quarter. They will have the flexibility to pay for their Netflix subscription via one consolidated OSN bill.

The deal will offer access to Hollywood feature films, top TV shows, documentaries, independent films, stand-up comedy, children's titles and Netflix original productions. Customers will have access to exclusive series and films in Ultra HD 4K and HDR such as 'Bright', starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton.

For original series, there are Netflix shows like 'Stranger Things', 'Black Mirror', 'MindHunter' and NetflixMarvel's 'The Defenders' and 'The Crown' plus the new cyberpunk noir 'Altered Carbon'. Netflix’s first Arabic stand-up comed, 'Adel Karam: Live from Beirut', is due to launch soon.

OSN terminates partnership with Netflix

UAE-based pay-TV network OSN announced it has terminated its partnership with Netflix and plans to discontinue support for the streaming application from 11 August, reports BroadcastPro ME. OSN said in a notice to customers that they will not be able to receive Netflix invoices via OSN due to a decision to remove the Netflix application from the OSN receiver. To continue watching, update customers were urged to update their payment method and download Netflix on their smartphone, mobile, tablet or website.

Middle East pay-TV provider OSN has signed a memorandum of understanding with Huawei to deliver a turnkey IPTV platform to expand the company's distribution. The company will use Huawei's Video Cloud Solution to expand beyond its satellite and OTT VoD services and reach more customers.

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region will have 20.8 million film and TV series SVOD subscribers by 2023, up from the 5.22 million recorded by end-2017, according to Digital TV Research. Saudi digital entertainment company Telfaz11 secures USD 9 mln funding

Telfaz11, a Saudi digital media company with 20 million YouTube subscribers on its network and an influential digital media company, said it has received a USD 9 million funding from lead investor Saudi Technology Ventures (STV). VentureSouq has also joined the Series A round of funding. The investment will be used by the company to build capacity, accelerate revenues and scale operations as Saudi Arabia ushers in a new era of entertainment.

Sharjah Media City signs MoU with digital distribution firms in response to rise of OTT

The UAE's Sharjah Media City (Shams) said it has tied up with Zoo Digital, a provider of subtitling and digital distribution services for the entertainment industry, and with Olive Digital, to supply localisation and digital distribution services to the UAE and MENA. Their MoU builds on a three-year relationship among the three parties, wherein Shams will serve as a hub for Olive Digital's New York office and Zoo Digital, said Khalid Al Midfa, chairman of Shams.

OSN adds Disney movie channels

Pay-TV provider OSN has added a new channel for Disney lovers. OSN Movies Disney HD will show animations, live-action features, classic Disney films and new titles, starting on 01 March. It is the first co-branded Disney channel in the Middle East and North Africa, and only the fourth such channel in the world.

Middle Eastern pay-TV operator OSN has announced the renewal of its partnership with Star Asianet Middle East, ensuring that OSN Pehla customers can continue to watch Star's bouquet of channels. The deal sees the addition of popular feature film channel Asianet Movies, and brings the number of Star channels available to OSN Pehla customers to ten, with key shows also available on streaming service OSN Play.

OSN, the Mideast pay-TV platform, has introduced a new channel with lifestyle programming, called OSN Living HD. Set to launch on 1 February, OSN Living HD will be live streamed on OSN Play, with catch-up shows available on OSN On Demand and OSN Play.

Netflix seeks business partners in South Africa

Netflix expects the deployment of fibre networks in South Africa and is looking for business partners to increase the accessibility of streaming video platforms, reports Mybroadband. The company told the publication that it cannot disclose regional subscriber numbers, but it is happy with South Africa's growth. It has 109 million subscribers globally and its international subscribers surpassed its domestic member base for the first time in 2018.

Moroccan operator Orange Maroc has announced plans to launch the 'Orange Films et Series' video-on-demand service after securing approval from the country's regulator, the Haute Autorite de la Communication Audiovisuelle (HACA), reports Digitaltveurope citing local reports. Orange Maroc will make the VoD service available to pre-payment and post-paid mobile subscribers.

Du signs a partnership agreement with OSN

UAE-based operator Du has signed a new partnership agreement with OSN, the region's entertainment network to provide its customers with an exclusive subscription to OSN's all-new online and mobile app entertainment platform, 'WAVO', for no additional cost until 31 December. The extended partnership also includes Du becoming the exclusive third-party distributer for WAVO in the UAE, and its customers will get an exclusive subscription to 'WAVO' content till the end of 2017.

OSN expands deal with Disney

Middle Eastern entertainment network OSN has has opened a second pay window deal for Disney feature films. OSN subscribers will be able to watch them on OSN Play, On demand and WAVO in addition to OSN's movie channels. The first pay window deal provided a selection of popular Disney films and series exclusively to OSN subscribers more than a year before any other pay television or SVoD platform in the region.

OSN airs Emirati procedural drama serial 'Justice'

OSN, the pay-TV platform, has picked up 'Justice', the first procedural drama from the Middle East and the biggest series to come out of the United Arab Emirates. It was created by Walter Parkes and William Finkelstein and is based on real cases from the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. The series revolves around Farah, an ambitious young lawyer who returns home after her studies in the US and tries to begin her career while her father pushes her to work for his legal practice.
