Over 45% of smartphones users use IM or OTT apps

More than 45 percent of customers with a smartphone use some form of IM or OTT messaging application in addition to (and in some cases instead of) SMS, according to a study by Analysys Mason. In addition, 20 percent of consumers use a VoIP application, and 20 percent of those consumers use it more than traditional voice services. WhatsApp Messenger is the first cross-platform messaging application; nearly 20 percent of the panellists used it during the two-month observation period. However, OTT applications have succeeded in replacing operator services in only a small proportion of cases;
