Over 8 in 10 still offline in least developed countries - ITU

Some 3.7 billion people remain offline and are excluded from the direct benefits of the global digital economy, according to a new publication released by the International Telecommunication Union. Offline populations are mainly concentrated in least developed countries (LDCs), where only 19 percent of individuals were online in 2019, said the ITU, adding that in Africa (29%) and Asia-Pacific (45%) less than half the population is currently online.
