Oversight committee criticises draft law on wiretapping

The oversight committee for the Dutch intelligence and security services (CTIVD) has criticised the government's draft legislation on the AIVD and MIVD services. A study by researchers at the University of Leiden, commissioned by the oversight committee, found that the new law does not provide for enough legal supervision of the AIVD and MIVD's enhanced powers to tap communications in order to ensure protection of personal privacy. In addition to a lack of legal authority for the committee to impose binding remedies and no government approval for targeting specific persons or organisations,
