Pakistan approves strict new social media rules

Pakistan's government has approved strict new rules to regulate cyber space that critics say could threaten freedom of expression in the country, reports the Wall Street Journal. The rules require media companies to remove content Pakistani authorities deem "unlawful" within 24 hours, or 6 hours in emergency cases. They must also set up offices and data centres in the country, take down certain posts by Pakistanis based abroad and even remove the encryption on content if requested.
