Pakistan schedules 3G/4G licence auction for 23 April
Pakistan's Federal Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, has chaired a meeting of the Spectrum Auction Advisory Committee to discuss the progress made to date on the auction of 3G/4G mobile licences. The auction is scheduled to take place on 23 April, with sealed bids to be submitted to regulator PTA on 14 April.

Mobile operators discuss tax issues with finance minister

Pakistan has completed its long-awaited 3G spectrum auction, with four operators winning licences. The four qualified bidders - Mobilink, Telenor, Ufone and Zong - each picked up licences for the 2,100 MHz band. Mobilink and Zong each acquired 2x10 MHz for just over USD 300 million, and Telenor and Ufone 2x5MHz each for USD 147.5 million. Four operators qualify for Pakistan spectrum auction

Four mobile operators have qualified to participate in the auction of spectrum in the 1,800MHz and 2,100MHz bands, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said in a statement. The qualified operators are China Mobile (Zong), Mobilink, PTML (Ufone) and Telenor Pakistan. The spectrum auction is scheduled for 23 April. Pakistani mobile operator Warid Telecom plans to roll out LTE on its existing spectrum holding in the 1,800 MHz band. PTA receives 4 applications for spectrum auction

Pakistan's communications regulator has received four applications for the spectrum auction on 23 April. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) received applications from local operators China Mobile (Zong), UFone, Mobilink, and Telenor Pakistan. Warid Telecom did not put in an application. The regulator confirmed that as the demand is higher than the supply, the allocation of spectrum will happen through an auction process.
