Papua New Guinea govt counters opposition to Huawei deal

The Papua New Guinea government says the upgrade of Telikom PNG's system will enable it to compete with other telecommunication providers. Public Enterprise and State Investments Minister Ben Micah said the upgrade will improve and modernise its telecommunication asset, the National reported. The minister was responding to opposition to the deal that Telikom PNG has signed for the deployment of a National Broad Network (NBN) with Huawei. Under the project, Telikom expects to see the construction of a network capable of delivering broadband via ADSL2+ technology to more than 800,000 premises
