Paying via smartphone, wearable on the rise in the Netherlands - study

More payments are getting made in the Netherlands with smartphones or wearables, the Dutch Payments Association said in its annual report. Apple Pay, in particular, has contributed significantly to the rapid growth of mobile contactless payments, with transactions rising to 516 million in 2020 from 116 million in 2019. At the end of 2020, around 15 percent of all contactless payments were conducted with a smartphone or wearable.
