PCCS submarine cable reaches Puerto Rico

The 6,000-kilometre PCCS fibre-optic cable has reached the tourist resort of Isla Verde in Puerto Rico, linking the Caribbean island to the US as well as parts of Central America and Latin America's Pacific coast, reports Efe. The cable was manufactured by Alcatel-Lucent and has a carrying capacity of 80 terabytes per second. It will now be connected to Aruba, Curacao, Colombia and Ecuador, among other countries. The Pacific Caribbean Cable System project has been carried by a consortium of operators including Telefonica, Cable & Wireless, Telconet, Setar and UTS.
