Poland deactivates estimated 12 million unregistered SIMs

Up to 12 million SIM cards may have been disabled in Poland for failing to register, estimates Rzeczpospolita. The regulator UKE told the daily that according to data submitted by operators, 68.7 percent pre-paid SIM cards had been registered by the deadline of 01 February for registering pre-paid SIM cards under anti-terrorism legislation in Poland.

Grazyna Piotrowska-Oliwa, CEO of Virgin Mobile Poland, said that her company had disabled 59,000 pre-paid cards, or around 14 percent of its whole customer base. Representatives of other operators underlined that they are satisfied with the results of the registration campaign.
