
Polish pay-TV merger gets green light

The transaction between French pay TV group Canal Plus, ITI and TVN received a green light without conditions from the Polish competition authority on 14 September. Last December, Canal Plus announced a final agreement to acquire 40 percent in N-Vision from Polish holding company ITI for EUR 230 million. N-Vision is the parent company of Polish Television Holding, which owns 51 percent of the Polish broadcaster TVN Group. Under the terms of the deal, Canal Plus and TVN are merging their Polish satellite pay-TV businesses, namely Cyfra+ and Platform 'n' in a joint venture. The majority stake of 51 percent in the new satellite TV platform will go to Canal Plus, TVN will own 32 percent, and UPC Poland will hold 17 percent. The new satellite platform will has around 2.5 million customers and is expected to generate PLN 350 million in synergies within three years, principally through cost savings and increased revenues.
