Poly poaches new CEO from TiVo

Plantronics, or Poly, has appointed a new CEO from 8 September. Dave Shull will succeed Robert Hagerty, who has served as interim CEO since February. Shull will come to Poly from TiVo, where he is president and CEO. Before joining TiVo, he served as CEO of The Weather Channel and held various executive roles at Dish Network/EchoStar.

Hagerty will continue in his role as chairman of the board, and resume his membership on the Nominating and Governance and Strategy Committees, as well as his role as chair of the Mergers and Acquisitions Committee. Marv Tseu will continue in his role as vice chairman of the board.

Poly reported better-than-expected results for its fiscal second quarter to September, thanks to strong demand for its headsets and video endpoints for remote working. The company said the performance gives it confidence to start devoting cash to deleveraging and it paid off USD 37 million in debt during the quarter.

Poly reports better-than-expected profit, amid in-line revenues for Q1

Plantronics, or Poly, reported lower but better-than-expected profit figures for the first quarter to 27 June, amid in-line revenues, helped by strong demand for headsets amid the coronavirus pandemic. The company said it has been working "aggressively" to fulfil the elevated demand and that its in-house manufacturing site in Tijuana, Mexico resumed production in early May after reconfiguring to implement certain safety protocols. The former Polycom CEO Robert Hagerty is returning to head the new company Poly, after its merger with Plantronics. He was already chairman and will take over as interim CEO, effective immediately. The appointment follows Joe Burton's decision to step down as CEO, by mutual agreement with the board.
