Portuguese operators rule out Huawei for core 5G networks

Friday 31 July 2020 | 11:16 CET | News

Portuguese operators Nos, Vodafone and Altice said they would not use Huawei in their core 5G networks, which covers servers, gateways and routers. Neither company gave a reason for not using Huawei in their core networks, leaving the door open for using Huawei in non-core parts, Reuters reports.

The Portuguese government has so far not taken a stance on Huawei, but Infrastructure Minister Pedro Nuno Santos told Reuters it has “no ‘a priori’ issues with any manufacturer”. He explained that a group created by the government to assess risks and cybersecurity issues relating to 5G had completed its work and had not drawn any conclusions directed against particular suppliers.
