Portuguese smartphone sales rise 44% in Q1

According to data published by IDC, 899,000 mobile phones were sold in Portugal in the first quarter of 2013, of which 397,000 were smartphones, increasing their share of the market to 44 percent of recorded sales. Overall, mobile phone sales were down 9 percent. In Portugal, pricing is particularly important with 35 percent of smartphones sold in the quarter positioning themselves in the price range below EUR 130. In Europe as a whole, this price segment represents only 17 percent of sales. Portuguese smartphone adoption remains well below the European average of 72 percent.
