Primetel to get 3rd mobile licence in Cyprus
The Cyprus government has agreed to negotiate with Primetel after it was the only company interested in a new mobile licence in the country. An attempt at an auction in 2013 of the rights for spectrum in the 900, 1800 and 2100 MHz band failed after there were no bidders. The Department of Electronic Communications of the Ministry of Communications and Works said it had reached a preliminary agreement with Primetel on the terms of the licence. If all conditions are met by the end of January, Primetel will be granted the licence. Primetel is already active on the fixed-line market in Cyprus and will compete against MTN and Cyta on the mobile market.

PrimeTel successfully managed to secure a mobile network operator licence in Cyprus. The company business model evolves from a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) to Mobile Network Operator (MNO). Since May 2011, PrimeTel has signed up over 40,000 mobile subscribers. PrimeTel to offer SMS-to-Twitter service

Primetel is offering its subscribers a service to post tweets on their Twitter account via SMS. The charges for the service are the same as for standard SMS or those under SMS bundles. Subscribers can activate the service through their Twitter account or by sending an SMS with the word 'START' to 1515. Upon activation, subscribers in Cyprus will be able to tweet via an SMS sent to 1515. There is no requirement to download and install a special app or to connect to the internet.
