Proximus plans early retirement programme - report

Belgian operator Proximus is hoping to encourage employees over 58 to take early retirement, reports La Libre Belgique. This would help the operator reduce its personnel costs and improve its competitive position. Around 1,000 employees, or 7 percent of the total workforce, could be affected by the plan, unnamed sources told the paper. While the Belgian government holds a majority of Proximus shares still, the early retirement plan would be against the current government's stated policy on working longer. A Proximus spokesman declined to comment, saying the company was continuously assessing
