Qualcomm setting up chip jv with Datang, JAC - report

Qualcomm, Datang Telecom and Beijing Jianguang Asset Management (JAC) are setting up a joint venture in China to manufacture chips for smartphones, Digitimes reported, citing China's Economic Daily News. The venture is expected to be established in the third quarter, with Tatang and JAC together holding a majority share of over 50 percent and Qualcomm as technology supporter. The entity will produce chips priced under USD 10, targeting the entry-level smartphone segment, noted the paper, adding that this strategy will not lead to competition with Qualcomm, which focuses on chips for premier
