Qualcomm to appeal unfavourable Korean court decision upholding USD 873 mln fine

Qualcomm said it would appeal a Seoul High Court decision on 4 December to uphold a record USD 873 million fine against the US chipmaker for unfair business practices, according to Reuters. The penalty was imposed by the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) in 2016. The court also confirmed some remedies proposed by the KFTC, including an order for Qualcomm to stop discriminating against rivals who intended to use its essential mobile patent and create competing for modem chips to supply smartphone makers.
