Qualcomm to enter server market with ARM-based chips

Qualcomm plans to enter the market for semiconductors for server systems, competing against Intel and AMD. The company confirmed the move during a meeting with analysts in New York on 19 November, the Wall Street Journal reports. "We are engaged with customers," said CEO Steve Mollenkopf. "It will take us a while to build this business, but we think it is an interesting opportunity going forward." He didn't disclose when Qualcomm would start selling server chips, their pricing or other details. Qualcomm plans to use a processor technology licensed from ARM Holdings.
