Qualcomm to help set up Brazilian chip factory

Brazil has signed a memorandum of understanding for the creation of a joint venture between Qualcomm and Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) for the construction of a chip factory called Advanced Cellular SiP (ACSIP). The unit in Brazil will support the development of 5G telephony and the Internet of Things, in domestic applications, industry and urban management. The agreement provides for USD 200 million in investments within four years. The factory is expected to be installed in the region of Campinas (Sao Paulo) and result in the generation of 1,200 jobs.
