German operator R-kom said it signed a cooperation agreement with passive network operator Labor Naab Infrastructure (LNI) to construct a gigabit-speed FTTH network in the district of Regensburg in southern Germany. Under the deal, LNI will build the fibre-optic infrastructure and coordinate engineering works in the municipalities, while R-kom will utilize the open access network to deliver high-speed internet to customers. Other providers will also be able to service households via the network. The first round of upgrades should be completed in 2018, said R-kom.
