Rakuten Mobile losses widen in Q1 as revenues grow 39%

Thursday 13 May 2021 | 14:01 CET | News
Japan's new operator Rakuten Mobile said it reached 4.1 million subscribers for its unlimited plan as of 11 May, up from 3.9 million a month earlier. It also passed its target for 80 percent population coverage for 4G service by the end of March. The mobile business generated JPY 68.6 billion in revenues in the first quarter, up 38.6 percent from a year earlier, while the operating loss more than doubled year-on-year to JPY 97.2 billion, due to increased costs for network expansion and roaming.
