Raxio Group to construct Ethiopia's first private data centre, plans expansion to other countries

Pan-African data centre developer and operator Raxio Group has secured land at the ICT Park on the outskirts of Addis Ababa through subsidiary Raxio Data Centre (Raxio Ethiopia) to construct country's first private uptime certified Tier III colocation data centre. It is due to be commissioned in Q3 2021.

Customers will be able to cross-connect with local and international carriers and other customers in specially designed meet-me rooms. Raxio Ethiopia will sequentially deploy its modules to accommodate an IT capacity of 1.5MW over the next few years, with the possibility of doubling capacity to 3.0MW as needs grow.

Robert Mullins, President of Raxio Group said Raxio's facilities enable companies such as mobile network operators, content delivery networks and financial service providers to run their critical IT systems in a built-for-purpose, always-on environment.

To meet  increased demand for local storage and data hosting in East and Central Africa, Raxio is planning to open ten to twelve new facilities, with the next ones likely to be in Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo. They will meet the uptime, redundancy and maintainability requirements established under the Tier III standard.
