Razer launches first smartphone for gamers, exclusively with 3 Group

The gaming peripherals maker Razer has launched its first smartphone. The Razer Phone targets mobile gamers with a high-power processor and display and will launch exclusively with mobile operator 3 in Europe from mid-November.

The Razer phone is equipped with what the company says is the world's first 120 Hz UltraMotion display that delivers the fastest refresh rates and smoothest graphics among smartphones on the market. UltraMotion's adaptive refresh technology synchronizes the GPU and display to remove image tearing or lag while driving efficient power usage. Razer said it's partnered with game developers such as Square Enix and Tencent to optimsie their games for the new screen.

The smartphone comes with a 5.72-inch Quad HD Igzo LCD display from Sharp and runs Qualcomm's top-of-the-range Snapdragon 835 processor and a 4,000 mAh battery with quick charging. It features a USB-C audio adapter with a 24-bit DAC for connecting earphones and dual 12-megapixel rear cameras.

The Razer comes with Android Nougat and will receive the Android Oreo upgrade in spring 2018. It also has the Nova Launcher Prime software installed with Google Assistant integration, to offer extra customisation options for the Android OS. The Razer Theme Store offers additional wallpapers, icon packs and custom ringtones inspired by gaming titles such as 'Shadowgun Legends'.

The Razer Phone will launch exclusively with 3 in the UK, Ireland, Denmark and Sweden from 17 November. In the US and Canada, it will be available from Razer's website, Amazon and selected Microsoft stores, and the phone will also sell in Germany and France. The recommend price is USD 700, GBP 700 or EUR 750.

3 Denmark said it would be selling the Razer for DKK 5,899 up front. It is also available with the Fri Tale 20 GB subscription (DKK 200 monthly) for DKK 150 per month for the phone itself over 30 months. This gives a total minimum price of DKK 5,800.
