REANNZ seeks international capacity

REANNZ, the organisation that runs New Zealand's 'Karen' science and education broadband network, has launched a NZD 15 million tender for capacity on a new trans-Pacific cable. New Zealand's previous government approved NZD 15 million in funding in the 2008 budget for the link, but REANNZ told the government it did not recommend investing the funds at that time. The organisation is now recommending investing the funds and REANNZ chief executive Donald Clark told Computerworld it expects that the organisation will have to top up the government funds with own funds for the project.
