Regulator allows Telefonica to close two ADSL plants

Spain's telecoms regulator CNMC has given Telefonica the go-ahead to close two ADSL plants that are no longer in use due to the expansion of its FTTH network. The regulator specified that Telefonica would only be permitted to shut down a plant when 25 percent of customers in the area served by the plant had alternative means of accessing the network. In the case of the two plants in question – Sant Cugat del Valles in Barcelona and Torrelodones in Madrid – the copper network has been replaced by a fibre-optic network and no alternative operators use the facilities.
