RIM offers free PlayBooks to Android app developers

Research In Motion (RIM) is giving away free PlayBook tablets to Android programmers to encourage them to make apps for the device, reports the New York Times. In a Twitter posting, Alec Saunders, RIM's vice president of developer relations, said that programmers have to make a PlayBook app and submit it to BlackBerry App World by 13 February. The PlayBook uses the QNX operating system, which will also power the new BlackBerry 10 smartphones, which are scheduled to launch by end-2012. Sales of the PlayBook have been disappointing, but if RIM abandons the device, then developers would stop
