Romanian ministry consults on use of Huawei equipment, 5G auction

Romania's Ministry of Communications launched an inter-institutional consultation process to gather all the relevant information that the Romanian state authorities have concerning the use of Huawei's equipment in the context of growing internation concern over the security of Chinese company's equipment as well as the 5G auction that will take place in 2019 in Romania, according to local publication HotNews.ro.

Romania, a NATO ally and host country of the NATO military base in Deveselu, signed in November 2013 a memorandum with Huawei through which the Ministry of Communications stated that it will back Huawei's participation in the construction of the country's National Intelligence and Communications System, the Traffic Monitoring and Surveillance System, the e-government projects, Smart City projects and the National Broadband Network created by the Romanian Government.

Romanian operators Orange, Vodafone, Telekom and RCS&RDS have so far also used Huawei equipment to build their networks besides infrastrucure from other companies.
