Rostelecom to cut staff - report

Russian national operator Rostelecom plans to launch a reorganisation reducing staff numbers in order to raise efficiency, reports Vedomosti. The workforce reduction will affect the company headquarters as well as regional branches. The reduction will total 40-50 percent of staff at the headquarters and less in the regions, according to the paper's sources. The main reason for the restructuring is the planned merger of the mobile business of Rostelecom with Tele2 Russia. Around two-thirds of Rostelecom staff working in the mobile field are planned to be dismissed. Some 155,000 employees currently work at Rostelecom, including 2,400 staff at the headquarters.
