Rural counties in England at a disadvantage for broadband speeds - study

Thursday 5 April 2018 | 13:45 CET | News
A new study from the County Council Network shows that over two-thirds of England's counties have lower than average broadband speeds, putting them at a 'competitive disadvantage' to cities and urban areas. Rural areas are at a further disadvantage, with broadband speeds up to three times slower than neighbouring cities. The study looked at England's 37 county councils, concluding that 72 percent of them are below the average download speed of 45 Mbps, while over a quarter (27%) have average speeds below Ofcom's definition of superfast (30 Mbps).
