Russia plans auction for 1,800 MHz band
Nikolay Nikiforov, Russian minister of communications, has approved the decision on distributing frequencies in the 1,800 MHz band via an auction. Frequencies in the 1,710-1,785 MHz and 1,805-1,880 MHz bands will be offered in nine regions: the Amur, Orenburg, Samara, Perm and Stavropol regions, as well as in Dagestan, Buryatia, North Ossetia and Karachay-Cherkesia republics. Winning bidders will be able to use the bands for either GSM or LTE services for 10 years. The initial price of each block, depending on the region and width, will vary fro RUB 0.5 million to RUB 240.4 million. The auction is planned to be completed by 30 September.

Norwegian communications regulator Nkom said talks have taken place over the use of frequencies in border areas between Norway and Russia. Russian plans 1,800 MHz band tender in September

Russian federal telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor announced that it plans to carry out an electronic auction for frequencies in the 1,710-1,785 MHz and 1,805-1,880 MHz bands. The spectrum can be used for mobile services over the GSM and LTE standards, as well as later modifications of the technologies. The auction will take place on 29 September. Several Russian mobile operators are already using the 1,800 MHz band for LTE in certain regions.

Beeline tests tri-band LTE-A in Russia

Russian mobile operator Vimpelcom, working under the Beeline brand, has tested LTE-Advanced technology using tri-band carrier aggregation. A prototype of a mobile device with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset and the integrated X10 LTE modem from Qualcomm, as well as the equipment from Huawei were used for the test. MTS launches LTE on 1,800 MHz band in Moscow

Russian mobile operator MTS plans to launch its LTE services on the 1,800 MHz band in Moscow from 01 January 2015, reports Vedomosti. The operator has upgraded hundreds of its base stations in the capital city, and the first part of the LTE-1800 network will be launched on the Sadovy motorway ring.
