Russia to carry out auction for 5G bands in Q1 2020 - report

Russian state radio frequencies commission SRFC plans to hold the 5G auction for frequencies in the 25.25-27.5 GHz bands in the first quarter of 2020, reports Izvestia citing several sources in the market and from the Ministry of Communications. A decision on the matter will be taken in October. 

The tender will include 11 lots. 

Telecom experts believe the pricing methodology for the bands should be changed before the start. If not, the starting price will exceed RUB 60 billion per lot.

Russian 5G auction could take place in December

The Russian state radio frequencies commission SRFC could decide to hold the first auction of 5G frequencies in  December, reports Vedomosti citing Andrey Kantsurov, a departmental director at the Ministry of Communications. The auction would be for spectrum in the 25.25-27.5 GHz bands. There would be six lots, in four federal bands of 400 MHz bandwidth each, as well as two regional bands, one of them of 250 MHz and the second of 400 MHz.

CIS to reach 54 mln 5G connections by 2025

The Commonwealth of Independent States members are expected to reach 24 million 5G connections by 2025, according to the GSMA's 'Mobile Economy: Russia & CIS 2019' report, which was published at the Mobile 360 Series – Eurasia event in Moscow. Operators are forecast to invest USD 39 billion in mobile infrastructure between 2019 and 2025, of which over 70 percent will be 5G-specific.

Russia to hold 5G auctions for 24.5-29.5 GHz bands this year

Russian Ministry of Communications plans to carry out 5G auctions in the 24.5-29.5 GHz bands this year, reports Vedomosti citing deputy minister Oleg Ivanov. The ministry also expects 5G to get developed using the 4.4-4.9 GHz band. According to Ivanov, mobile operators MTS, Beeline, Tele Russia and Megafon have agreed to cooperate for the deployment of 5G infrastructure in bands below 6 GHz.
