Russian hackers used Kaspersky software in NSA breach - report

Friday 6 October 2017 | 10:44 CET | News
Russian government-backed hackers used Kaspersky antivirus software to steal information about National Security Agency surveillance and cyberdefence programmes, according to unnamed sources cited by the Wall Street Journal. The hackers apparently targeted an NSA contractor after identifying the files through the contractor's use of Russia-based Kaspersky's software, said the sources, adding that the breach occurred in 2015. The theft, described in the report as one of the most significant security breaches in recent years, was discovered the spring of 2016.
