Russian pay-TV revenues advance 16% in Q2 - study

Russian pay-TV operators recorded revenues up 15.5 percent year-on-year, from RUB 18.3 billion to RUB 21.2 billion, in the second quarter of this year, according to a study from TMT Consulting. The average ARPU was RUB 170, up by RUB 18.

About 100,000 new connections to satellite-TV services were  registered in April-June. Tricolor TV reported 60,000 new connections while the figure for Orion grew by 29,000. The subscriber base of the operators increased by 10,000 and 26,000, respectively, quarter-on-quarter. 

Around 207,000 new connections to IPTV services were registered. National operator Rostelecom raised its IPTV customer base by 167,000. For ER-Telecom, the number grew by 42,000.

The pay-TV subscriber base of Tricolor TV was 12.210 million, Rostelecom followed with 9.550 million, ER-Telecom with 3.112 million, Orion with 3.008 million, and MTS with 2.779 million.

The total pay-TV subscriber base reached 41.8 million households; the market penetration amounted to 73.6 percent.
