Sales of convertible, detachable devices up 45% in W. Europe

Western European shipments of ultraslim convertibles and detachables were up 44.7 percent in the first quarter of the year, according to a report from IDC. Convertibles and detachables now account for 18.4 percent of total consumer shipments and 21.9 percent of commercial devices in the first quarter, up from 9.2 percent and 16.3 percent respectively a year ago. In total, detachable shipments grew 190.4 percent year on year in Western Europe, from about 500,000 to 1.5 million units. On the PC side, despite a 12.9 percent decline in PCs in Western Europe, convertible notebooks grew by 12
