Salt may exit market if ends up with too little spectrum after auction

Swiss operator Salt may be driven to leaving the market if the spectrum auction planned for the second half of 2018 is conducted in an unfair manner, its CEO Andreas Schonenberger told NZZ am Sonntag. Salt considers itself to be disadvantaged by its competitor Swisscom, which Schonenberger claims is demanding an unfair, risky and far too complex auction format. Swisscom allegedly wants to acquire more spectrum than necessary this way, or to drive the bid prices up.

Schonenberger is calling for a simplified auction procedure with a price cap. If Salt were to be awarded too few frequencies as a result of the auction, it may have dramatic consequences. He told the newspaper this could lead to Salt being pushed out of the market.
