Samsung is working on its own smart speaker, powered by the Bixby digital assistant, the Wall Street Journal reports. People familiar with the matter said the expected launch of the device is not yet known, as Samsung is still working on preparing Bixby for languages other than Korean, and other specifications of the speaker are yet to be decided. The project, internally code-named 'Vega', has been underway for more than a year, the report said.
Bixby was first launched in Korea, with the Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone this spring, but Samsung has delayed the launch in English and Chinese as it works on refining the language skills of the voice-activated software. According to the report, the launch of Bixby in English is not expected until the second half of July at the earliest.
