Samsung rejects proposal to form holding company

Samsung Electronics has rejected a proposal to form a new holding company structure but said it would cancel treasury shares in a concession to shareholder pressure. The company announced last November a review of its corporate structure, following calls from some investors. However, it concluded that adopting a new holding company structure "would not strengthen the competitiveness of the company's businesses and could potentially weigh on the company's operations longer term". As a gesture to shareholders, the company decided instead to cancel its treasury shares, worth some KRW 40
